Spent the evening with Dawg and his wife, Leigh Ann. That was really nice. I hadn't seen Dawg since we bumped into them in the Food Lion parking lot in Kings Mountain over a year ago. I had tried to stay in touch with postcards and such, but got the idea in my head that I had the wrong zip code, so quit sending them. We met the whole family. Dawg's son, Dylan, of course, Leigh Ann's daughter Chasity, and their little girl Marissa (who has Dawg wrapped around her little finger). Mara met Leigh Ann's son Andy, but I didn't cross paths with him. I think he's going through that phase where he thinks everybody else is stupid, and so he avoids everyone else at all costs.
We went out to eat with Dawg and Leigh Ann at the Nakata Japanese restaurant. Was wonderful food, and nice company. I didn't realize until then how much I missed having friends and hanging out. I fully intend to keep up the tradition as much as possible in the future.
Dawg and I seemed to get along as well as ever, in spite of my lingering guilt over being forced to be an accomplice in the whole Rick/Kim thing. There was an undercurrent of discomfort between us, but I don't think it was any more than discomfort between two friends who really hadn't been around one another in years. We've both changed a bit, and it'll take a little time to catch up.
All in all, I was extremely pleased to get reaquainted with my old friend, and I was equally pleased to get acquainted with his family. In some odd fashion, I feel like I've come back to my family, you know? If for no other reason than that Kevin Galloway has always acted more like my brother than any of the step-brothers and half-brothers I've ever had.
