Today I find myself considering how odd it is that in this country, it is, apparently, impossible to conduct any form of business fairly or legally. In specific, I am talking about the handling of the recounts in Florida (the Presidential election). How odd it is that the Republicans insist on throwing out the ballots that do not favor them (Miami-Dade and Palm Beach), but it's okay to recount the ballots that do favor them (the military). And no one calls them on it.

I'm upset today. Earlier I felt physically ill. Today the Supreme Court (U.S) decided to override the Florida Supreme Court's decision to allow the Florida recounts, even though they ruled last week that it was a state matter. Oddly enough, when the Florida Supreme Court made a decision that the conservative Republican majority on the U.S. Supreme Court didn't like, it was no longer a matter for the state of Florida, but of national priority to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In essence, the U.S. Supreme Court has just ruled George W. Bush is the next President of the United States, by barring Florida state recounts that everyone assumes would have favored Gore. It was a partisan decision which reeks of political intervention.

Had the recounts been done and George W. Bush had been clearly the winner, I could have accepted the man as my legitimate President (even though I think he's a fool, an asshole, and a spoiled frat boy who was elected to the Governorship of Texas and now the Presidency of the United States based mostly upon the fact that his Daddy is a former President). Yes, had the recounts declared him the winner, I would not question his legitimacy.

But by barring the recounts in Florida, the U.S. Supreme Court has apparently made a partisan, political decision that it doesn't matter who won the popular vote. It's best for the country that George W. Bush be declared President of the United States.

So while George W. Bush did not steal this election personally, it was stolen for him. And as such, I can never acknowledge him as my legitimate President.

This election was stolen.

And if the system can be manipulated by those in power to reflect whatever outcome they wish to create, then the votes of the average American truly do not count.

Indeed, more than ever, I feel like I am behind enemy lines.
