Fretless Guitar

Racine, Virgina. Stopped at a truck stop to regroup. I'm still peddling, trying to get home from Massachusetts. Not going to have much of a weekend. But that's alright. I could deliver this load as late as midnight on Monday. But I plan to get rid of it early Monday morning.

I've thinking about my latest crazy idea this morning. A fretless guitar. I talked to a company about making such a neck, and have thought about building a fretless guitar around the orignal pickups from my Stratocaster.

I don't think I can explain why I want a fretless guitar. I've never seen one, much less played one. I have no idea what one would sound like. But I think it would be wicked. My theory is that it would free me from the 12-tone Western scale. Well, the scale would still be there, but it would allow me a lot more freedom within it. It would let me put a Middle Eastern sort of wiggle on some things, which would fit in really well with some projects I have in mind.

I'll have to research this when I get home.
