I just watched the movie The Last Samurai. It's left me deeply affected, and I can't really tell you why. Well, I suspect it has a lot to do with the ideals of honor and purpose. Once upon a time such things meant a lot to me. I suppose the movie simply hit a lot of the right notes for me. I was surprised. I sat down to watch a Hollywood movie, and walked away with a tightness in my chest and shift in perception. I'm sure tomorrow I'll be back in my fog. But right now I've remembered that I once held dearly to certain ideals. Now I am cynical and weary.
