Ok. Now that I've passed up that trucking job offer, the universe has seen fit to kick me in the teeth. Well, U.S. Xpress has, anyway. What the fuck was I thinking? I delivered in this morning in Piney Flats, Tennessee. I invested two days into a 325 mile load, thanks largely due to USX's incompetence. First they dispatched me on a load Sunday that the pre-plan info said picked up by midnight. When I got the actual load info, it said pick up by 21:00. Fine. But when I got directions it said that shipping at customer was FCFS (first come, first serve) Monday through Friday, 07:00 to 14:00. So. No Sunday pickup. Fine. I get up there Monday morning. There's no load. My load had shipped Thursday night. But they had another load which went to the same place I was supposed to go. So USX put that one on me. I leave customer about noon, hit afternoon traffic in Knoxville, and at 14:30 am about sixty miles out. I asked my dispatcher if customer would be open, because I couldn't get the customer on the phone. Nope. Her info said that cut-off was 14:00. So I wait until this morning. No problem. I stop at a truckstop about halfway up, get some sleep, get up this morning and take a shower, go over to customer and get unloaded. Two days. 325 miles.
I mention all this because it just got worse. USX now wants me to take my empty trailer to a customer in Knoxville, then go somewhere else and pick up another empty. Huh? Ok, fine. Customers have to have trailers to load. Sometimes they get them off of the backs of drivers. The reason this irritates me is that I've already done my time this week. Now I'm going to have to do this fucking trailer dance today? How much of my driving time is that going to take up? How much money am I going to make ferrying around trailers? And when all is said and done, and I've dropped my empty, and I've picked up another empty, is there going to be a load waiting for me on the other end of it?
Christ, I'm sick of this company. Why the fuck didn't I take that other job?
