Okay, pet peeve time. Recently, with all the changes going on in our lives, we've decided that we need to pare down our miscellaneous expenses. I cancelled a few things last week. But two nagging ones that I finally cancelled today are what have me irritated. I just cancelled subscriptions to the eDiets.com web site and to Film Movement. Both of these companies used what I consider to be dishonest practices. To sum it up quickly, both sites allow you to sign up online, to upgrade your account online, etcetera, but both make it difficult to cancel your membership. Oddly enough, you can sign-up online, but to cancel you have to call a phone number.
This only annoys me because it's clearly designed to make it a hassle to cancel your membership. I'm sure a lot of people give up on trying to cancel their memberships or, as we did, put it off because of the hassle. That's manipulative, and think it's a dishonest business practice. If someone can sign-up on your web site, then it's not any more technically difficult to allow them to cancel. With that in mind, I'm glad to be rid of these people.
