Spy Squirrels

Geez. I heard a report on NPR about a picked up news story out of Iran. Iranian news outlets have reported the capture of some spy squirrels that the U.S. was using to monitor the Iranian border. ;-)

Okay, so if you don't believe me, the following quote came from the state-sponsored news agency IRNA; “In recent weeks, intelligence operatives have arrested 14 squirrels within Iran's borders.” They also reported, much to the relief of worried Iranians, I'm sure, “The squirrels were carrying spy gear of foreign agencies, and were stopped before they could act, thanks to the alertness of our intelligence services.”

It's unknown if this has been associated with claims that British troops in Basra, near the border with Iran, have released giant man-eating badgers into the city and slipped snakes into the waterway.

This isn't the first time animals have been accused of being spies. The residents of Hartlepool are believed to have hung a monkey because they thought it was a French spy. Well ... actually, I can sort of see that. Maybe the monkey was rummaging in a trash bin for truffles and gave himself away.

In the West, much giggling followed.

Geez. One has to wonder if there's a secret CIA program in which American witches are working to rob Iranian males of their virile member. How do you fight a culture that believes you have in your arsenal frogs and locusts? Why don't we bring the army home and send in the witches?
