Artist Web Pages

I was just knocking around the Internet looking for an artist for a friend of mine. Came across a bunch of web sites for other artists before I found his. I was struck by one interesting pattern. Almost universally, artists' web pages suck. This is strange to me. You would think the one category of people who would have great web pages would be artists. Or at least pages that were pleasant visually. Nope. Mostly what you get are plain black backgrounds, very little text, and a few small thumbnails of the work the artist wants to feature.

There's no real point to mentioning this other than to note a curious pattern.
