I just found out that wacko Vernon Robinson was defeated. For those who don't know, Vernon Robinson is an African-American who was running for the Republican nomination for a seat here in North Carolina's 5th U.S. Congressional District. He lost to Virginia Foxx, who is only slightly less Conservative, but geez. Vernon Robinson was a lunatic. He calls himself "the black Jesse Helms" and puts out some of the most offensive political ads that anyone has ever heard. Just check out the links on his own web site;

The thing that has bothered me all along was that this nut got so much national support. Why did he get so much national support? One has to wonder if a lot of it has to do with the fact that people nationally simply think thought that Vernon Robinson was the most electable candidate. That would mean that nationally people think that us folks here in North Carolina are a bunch of uneducated, barefoot, straw-chewing hillbillies for whom racist and offensive rhetoric is the norm; that we'd cozy up to ol' Vernon because he's one of the good ol' boys. Well, in fact, Vernon is from Los Angeles, and apparently most of his supporters are from out of state.

I'm not saying that Virginia Foxx is the answer to our prayers by any means. She's a Conservative Republican and is only slightly better than Robinson. It's expected that she's most likely to win that seat, since I haven't found out who her Democrat challenger is yet. No one seems to know. So we're screwed either way. But at least we didn't get saddled with Vernon Robinson!
