I'm about to go to bed. Mara and I played Star Wars Galaxies for a bit. I was just wrapping up e-mail. I half expected to see torches and pitchforks outside of our window at some point during the night because I had the unmitigated audacity to finally say something in response to the deluge of Right-Wing anti-John Kerry e-mail that well-meaning reletives keep forwarding to me. The e-mail that prompted my response was typical misinformation; this time a distributed link to the Republican Right-Wing organization Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. I finally had reached my limit, and I hastily wrote something to the effect of "Christians should be wary of helping to spread lies and falsehoods, because they will be held accountable before God" and BCC'd it to every address on the list. I immediately regretted it.
I checked my mail a bit ago, expected a deluge of angry bullshit, but I only received two messages; both from someone whose e-mail address begins with bmoore33 (whom I don't know). In my message I had included a link to an online article by Matt Gunn called Swift Boat Veterans for a Big Lie. This wasn't a very complicated article, which is why I chose it. I considered the people who would be reading it; people whose attention spans would not allow them to sit through a long dissertation on why the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth organization is a Republican disinformation operation. This was a good, concise summation of why the organization is a sham.
bmoore33 wrote me directly, saying;
"Maybe you should check your sources as well. At least the men pictured with Kerry were really with him for the picture. I think I'd believe them first. Especially since they were willing to sign off on the site."
Well, that's sort of the problem. As near as I can gather, none of the men on that photograph served on a swift boat with John Kerry. They are swift boat veterans, yes, but did not serve on a vessel with John Kerry. That's where the lie comes in. They don't actually say that they did. But they imply that they did. They have no personal experience with John Kerry. Not one of them!
bmoore33 also wrote to the list of e-mail addresses;
"I suggest that all who received the Mattgunn link read his bio from the same link and decide for yourself who you want to believe. Those PICTURED with Kerry or the Mattgun article. http://www.mattgunn.com/bio.htm"
I read Matt Gunn's bio. I don't understand what it has to do with anything. I can only assume that bmoore33 is trying to find fault with the source of the information I presented. Somehow I imagine that if it conflicted with his views he would doubt information that was carved in stone and handed down to him by the hand of God.
