I watched a Cream concert with Mama tonight. Royal Albert Hall - London May 2-3-5-6 2005. It was really surreal, because Mama really got into it. I never thought about Mama liking Cream. I thought she'd just be interested because Eric Clapton was in it. She remembers Clapton from Tears In Heaven. Put it this way, she said something to the effect that she knew Eric Clapton was a singer, but she didn't know he was a guitar player, too. At least not that he was that good. Hehehe.
What surprised me more than anything was how much of a fuss Mama made over Ginger Baker. At one point I was beginning to suspect that Mama was pulling my leg about liking the DVD, but I think she was serious. She didn't seem like she was just telling me she liked it to make me feel good or something. Of course, with Mama you never know.
Anyway, I liked the show myself. I was underwhelmed until I thought about turning on the 5.1 mix. Then the sound just opened up, and it was like sitting in the Royal Albert Hall. I've never been a big Cream fan, but I've always like them individually. I think the updated sound helped me access their music a bit more easily than I ever had. Was a good way to spend some time.
