Just saw a sign that raised the bar for banality. It read “golf for freedom” and concerned a local golf tournament. If ever there was an example that the word “freedom” had become a flippant catch-phrase in the American lexicon, this is it. I can only hope that someone was making a joke about the self-importance of the majority of golfers. I dare not hold out that hope, though.
