Tunnel Hill. Waiting in the inspection lane. Stopped here to get those trailer tires changed. Was just sitting here looking at the retired trucks and feeling an unexpected empathy with them. They look tired. Abandoned. Used up. I've driven about as many miles as those retired trucks have on them. I feel every mile in my bones. I'm sure that when I'm all used up U.S. Xpress will just trade me in for a newer model that still shines and for whom years of neglect and hundreds of thousands of miles have not yet taken a toll.
