Okay. Air America's show Morning Sedition irritated me again. This seems to be something of a pattern with these shows.

They asked if listeners thought that we would ever solve the problem of racism. Personally, I don't think we ever will, because the root of all racism is simple prejudice. If you don't get hung up on the word "racism", you can reduce just about anything to simple prejudice. Prejudice against anyone who is different, who has a better job, who has a worse job, etc. The crap that Mara and I have had to swallow from one side of the country to the other for having Southern accents is prejudice. I think people are prejudicial by nature, and that racism grows from that. I think it's unlikely we'll ever be able to free ourselves of prejudice.

Morning Sedition followed that segment by reading quotes and discussing who said them. One was; "I get to go to a lot of overseas places, like Canada." It turned out that Britney Spears had said that. Co-host Mark Riley said; "Well, she is from another country; Louisiana."

Ahem. Prejudice, anyone? Some might think that was funny, but to me it made the previous discussion smack of hypocrisy. I wonder if Mark Riley would ever make that connection?
